The “NAWD Stars” program recognizes and rewards the achievements of professionals and amateurs in Western and Cowboy Dressage. “NAWD Stars” serves as a resource for those looking for excellence in performance in the industry. Clients seeking a trainer or coach will be able review the list and find trainers and coaches performing successfully in Western and Cowboy Dressage.
Because we feel that this service is so critical to maintain quality among Western Dressage professionals, this list is open to everyone regardless of affiliation. However, Stars application for scores earned at live shows that are not recognized by NAWD or virtual shows that are not run by NAWD are subject to a $20 fee.
Effective March 25, 2016:
1) Stars are free when earned from NAWD Virtual Shows or NAWD recognized live shows.
2) There is a $20 fee for each Star granted when the results include any score(s) not awarded through NAWD Virtual or NAWD recognized live shows.
Additional clarification: If all the scores for a Star come from NAWD or NAWD recognized shows--- then the NAWD Star is awarded for free. If you have 2 scores from NAWD and 1 from another show for these programs ---- you must pay the $20 fee. If you have 1 score from NAWD and 2 from another show for these programs ---- you must pay the $20 fee. Qualification rules remain the same as they have always been. The $20 fee is on a per star basis and we will send you a paypal invoice upon receipt of your scores that require payment of the fee.
The names of “NAWD Stars” are published on the website and remain there indefinitely. Recipients will also receive a digital star to place on their website and/or Facebook page to let the world know that they are “STARS”.
NAWD Stars may be achieved in the following 6 categories and participants may earn an unlimited number of stars for Western Dressage. A single NAWD Star is available for Cowboy Dressage achievement in each of the categories.
You can submit your information for a NAWD Star for one of the following categories by sending proof of your scores to firstname.lastname@example.org. Score sheets must be submitted as proof and they must be signed by a Licensed judge.
Trainers receive stars when they train a horse that receives 3 scores of 70% or greater at a specific level of Western Dressage. A one-time accomplishment NAWD Star for Cowboy Dressage will be granted for those who train a horse that receives 3 scores of 70% or greater in any level or class of Cowboy Dressage. Trainers with multiple stars will have demonstrated proficiency and excellence in the competitive arena. Stars are also awarded for NAWD Six Feet on the Ground and NAWD Western Dressage Trail.
An unlimited number of stars is available for trainers in Western Dressage.
Coaches receive one star for each specific level in which they coach two riders to receive 3 scores of 65% or greater in Western Dressage. Additionally, they may receive a star each time the coach a rider to "level up" in Western Dressage by helping the rider achieve at least 3 scores of 65% or greater in both the previous and next highest level ridden. A one-time accomplishment NAWD Star for Cowboy Dressage will be granted for those who coach two riders to achieve 3 scores of 65% or greater in any level or class of Cowboy Dressage. Stars are also awarded for NAWD Six Feet on the Ground and NAWD Western Dressage Trail.
Coaches with multiple stars lets you know that he/she is able to coach and encourage riders and horses to succeed as a team.
TRAX Teams receive one star for each year in which they have all riders on the team submit at least three qualified scores, and the team cumulative score is 65% or higher.
Amateurs and Youth receive one star for each level in which they receive 3 scores of 65%. A one-time accomplishment NAWD Star for Cowboy Dressage will be granted for those who receive 3 scores of 65% or greater in any level or class of Cowboy Dressage. Stars are also awarded for NAWD Six Feet on the Ground and NAWD Western Dressage Trail.
Because NAWD believes that it takes two to form a partnership, we have decided to give stars to the horses themselves!
Horses can earn one star in each of the following categories when they receive 3 scores of 65% or higher. Scores across categories cannot be mixed.
- Western Dressage
- Traditional Dressage
- Cowboy Dressage
- NAWD Six Feet on the Ground
- NAWD/USEF Freestyle
- NAWD Western Dressage Trail

The final category of star is for NAWD Ambassadors.
NAWD Ambassadors promote inclusion and partnership between individuals and organizations. They promote Western or Cowboy Dressage, volunteer at events, and help build programs. NAWD membership is not required, but these stars demonstrate the NAWD Mission, to provide resources for all to learn how Classical Dressage principles can help the Western Horse become a better partner and improve performance for any discipline.
Ambassador Stars are awarded by NAWD. NAWD Members may also nominate individuals for ambassadors by submitting their name and reason for nomination.
